An insurance defense lawyer based in Richmond, VA, Claire C. Carr has earned the respect of clients and colleagues throughout a legal career that has spanned nearly three decades. Named one of Legal Leaders Top Rated Lawyers and Women Leaders in 2019, Claire C. Carr was also named a Virginia Super Lawyer in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and was chosen as a Virginia Business Legal Elite for 2017 and was inducted into the prestigious national College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers in 2017.

After graduating from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1990, Claire C. Carr served as law clerk to the Chief Staff Attorney's Office and to Senior Justice Richard H. Poff on the Supreme Court of Virginia. In 1992 she joined the law firm of Kalbaugh Pfund & Messersmith, PC, in Richmond, VA. where she has defended approximately 75 jury trials in personal injury claims on behalf of individuals and insurance carriers. In 1998 she started the firm's workers' compensation department which she has chaired since that time, defending workers' claims for well-known national corporations, insurance carriers and self insured entities. She is a shareholder of the firm and serves as vice president.

Claire C. Carr is a member of the National Retail & Restaurant Defense Association, where she has twice chaired the Workers' Compensation Committee and remains an active participant. She is also a member of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, and a founding member of the Workers' Compensation American Inn of Court for which she served as programs co-chair, treasurer, and currently as Secretary. In addition, she helped found the Workers' Compensation Advisory Conference.
